Ackah Blay Criticizes Rise of Explicit Lyrics in Modern Music

- Ackah Blay critiques vulgarity in today’s music
- He says older songs addressed intimacy more artistically
- He also urges musicians to prioritize meaningful, socially uplifting lyrics
Highlife veteran Ackah Blay has voiced concern over the increasing use of explicit lyrics by younger musicians, warning that modern music is straying from meaningful messages to openly promoting sexual immorality.
He stressed that music should go beyond entertainment—serving as a tool for education, emotional expression, and cultural influence. Comparing past and present styles, Ackah Blay noted that while older songs explored intimacy, they did so subtly and artistically.
“Today’s lyrics are too raw and direct, lacking the poetic depth we once valued,” he said, adding that although foreign artists also sing about sex, they often do it with more refinement, unlike what’s seen in many local songs.
He urged emerging artistes to focus on producing uplifting content, cautioning them about their powerful influence on young listeners.
