Parliament has approved a budget allocation of GH¢65,899,456.00 to support the development of sports across the nation.
The approval, granted on Thursday, March 27, 2025, followed a motion introduced by Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways.
The motion received strong backing from several Members of Parliament, including Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, the MP for Okere Constituency, who highlighted the importance of maintaining sports facilities.
“Maintenance has been a concern, and if we are serious about advancing our sports and engaging the youth, the ministry must prioritize maintenance. This will ensure that these facilities remain functional and provide lasting opportunities for young people to nurture their talents,” he said.
Minister Agbodza outlined the ministry’s plans for the funds, explaining that the budget will support critical initiatives aimed at enhancing sports across the country.
“The allocated funds will be used to advance sports activities, including developing a new sports policy, rehabilitating some stadiums, and establishing a national sports fund,” he said.
This approval represents a major investment in Ghana’s sports sector, promising improved infrastructure and greater opportunities for emerging athletes.
