Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stressed the crucial importance of the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling it a necessity.
The senior national team is gearing up for international action this week, marking their first matches since missing out on a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As part of their World Cup qualifying campaign, Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in key Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures.
In a media briefing after visiting the players at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, Minister Adams underscored the significance of qualification, comparing it to the essential need for air.
“Qualification is like the air we breathe. That’s how badly I need it. So, why do you see me here? Over the past few days, if you had come by, you’d find me here regularly,” he said.
“Even yesterday, Sunday, I was here. That should tell you how much I want everything to be in order for this game. I need it just as much as Ghanaians do. I know the players need it too, and the coach has also expressed his desire for it,” he added.
The Black Stars began their training on Monday, with nine players attending the initial session at the Accra Sports Stadium. The rest of the squad is expected to join the camp today as preparations ramp up.
Ghana will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, with the match set to kick off at 19:00 GMT. The team will then travel to Morocco to face Madagascar at Stade Mimoun Al Arsi on Monday, March 24.
