  • Brother Sammy criticizes churches for judging people with tattoos, piercings
  • He defends betting, saying it's a legitimate way to get richer, challenging Christian norms

Ghanaian gospel musician Brother Sammy has sparked debate by declaring that activities such as staking bets, eating pork, and getting piercings should not be considered sinful. During a recent entertainment discussion, he urged individuals to stop using Christianity as a means of intimidation.

“I engage in betting regularly,” Brother Sammy revealed, explaining that he views it as a quick way to accumulate wealth. He pointed out that while many people pray for financial breakthroughs, they often overlook betting as a legitimate avenue for quick income.

The gospel artist also criticized what he sees as hypocrisy among some pastors who allow their children to participate in American lotteries while discouraging similar practices among their congregations. “Though I have never staked lotto, I wouldn’t preach against it,” he stated. “Funds from such activities can even be used to contribute to church offerings.”

In addition to discussing betting, Brother Sammy addressed societal judgments regarding individuals with tattoos and piercings, particularly in church settings. “Even when boys with tattoos and piercing enter churches, they look at them with judgmental eyes; it’s not fair. They judge Rastafarians but allow women to wear weaves and synthetic hairs. We need to be truthful to each other,” he said.

Reiterating his stance, Brother Sammy emphasized that he does not and will never subscribe to the moral compass that restricts individual free will.
