According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the bus allegedly handed over the steering wheel to his mate, who was not experienced enough to handle the vehicle. This reckless decision proved fatal as the mate lost control of the bus when it hit a speed ramp, causing it to overturn.
The accident occurred when the bus was traveling from Kumasi to Bawku, with passengers on board who were unaware of the impending danger. Adam Iddrisu Emmanuel, a passenger who survived the crash, recounted the horrific events leading up to the accident.
Emmanuel explained that the driver applied the brakes suddenly, causing the bus to lose balance and hit the bridge. He stated, “This morning when we were coming from Kumasi to Bawku, when we got here, the driver applied the brake, and actually, I don’t know what happened, and the car, it is like it lost balance, so it came and hit the bridge.”
The passenger further revealed that they had loaded the bus at Kumasi, near Kejetia, and were headed to Garu. He expressed shock and disbelief at the sudden turn of events that led to the accident. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the instant deaths of two people. Several others were injured, some critically, and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
