Parliamentary Network Africa (PNAfrica) and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) have entered into a landmark partnership, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 21, 2024. The partnership aims to empower graduate students to contribute to evidence-based policy-making in Ghana’s legislative process, promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance principles.
The MoU was signed following a detailed discussion between the two parties, outlining the terms of the agreement and brainstorming implementation strategies. Sammy Obeng, Executive Director of PNAfrica, led the discussions, emphasizing the long-term impact of the partnership, which sets a precedent for future collaborations.
“This partnership is not just for today; it’s for the future, creating a legacy that will benefit subsequent officeholders and the broader academic community,” Mr. Obeng stated. GRASAG President Emmanuel Owusu expressed his commitment to the collaboration, ensuring a robust handover system for future executives to maintain continuity.
As part of the partnership, a cohort of GRASAG members will receive training in effective parliamentary research, providing research findings to support Parliamentary Committees in evaluating bills and policies. This initiative is part of the “Enhancing Civic Participation of Youth and Women in Ghana” project, funded by the French Embassy, aiming to strengthen the capacity of youth and women in the parliamentary process.
Both PNAfrica and GRASAG are optimistic about the positive impact of this partnership, enhancing civic engagement and policy-making in Ghana. The partnership marks a significant milestone in promoting evidence-based policy-making, ensuring a lasting legacy for future generations.
