Two individuals of Nigerian nationality found themselves in police custody after attempting to register at a voter registration center in Asokore Mampong, Ashanti Region.

Despite facing skepticism from both Electoral Commission (EC) officers and law enforcement, they failed to provide sufficient justification for their presence at the registration venue, prompting their apprehension and transfer to a local police station.

As the voter registration process continues amidst nationwide technical glitches, Asokore has seen 2,304 successful registrations as of May 15, 2024.

However, the smooth flow was marred by six cases of double registration, in addition to the incident involving the two foreigners.

Angela Afiriyie Osei, the Asokore Mampong District Officer of the EC, issued a stern warning to ineligible individuals, emphasizing the importance of abiding by the registration criteria.

Meanwhile, authorities are currently interrogating the detained individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
