Eric Tinkler appointed Asante Kotoko head coach

Asante Kotoko have appointed South African coach Eric Tinkler as head coach ahead of the new season, with the new manager setting his sights on success in Ghana and in African club competition.

Tinkler, whose appointment was announced on Friday, said he was excited to join the Kumasi-based club and recognised its standing in African football.

“I am honoured and excited to join one of Africa’s most storied football institutions,” Tinkler said in comments reported by 3News. He pointed to the club’s history, its culture of pursuing success and its development ambitions.

The coach said he wanted to work closely with the playing squad, technical staff and management to assemble a competitive team. His stated objective is for Kotoko to challenge for trophies domestically while also being able to compete on the continental stage.

“I look forward to working with the players, staff, and management to build a team that can compete and win, both at home and on the continental stage,” he said.

The appointment begins a new chapter for the Porcupine Warriors as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign. Expectations around the club include a push to return to domestic prominence and to improve its performances in continental competitions.

Kotoko are among Ghana’s best-known clubs and carry significant expectations from supporters whenever a new technical direction is announced. Tinkler’s early emphasis on collaboration and competitiveness gives an indication of the priorities he intends to bring to the role.
