Asante Kotoko appoint Eric Tinkler as head coach

Asante Kotoko have appointed South African coach Eric Tinkler as their new head coach as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

MyJoyOnline reported that Tinkler will take charge of the Kumasi-based club’s first team and work closely with Director of Football Stanley Menzo as Kotoko seek to strengthen their football operations.

Tinkler arrives with experience in South African club football, having managed Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits, according to the report.

His previous coaching record includes leading Orlando Pirates to the final of the CAF Champions League and helping SuperSport United reach the CAF Confederation Cup final. The report also credited him with domestic cup successes, including the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout.

Before moving into coaching, Tinkler was a South Africa international. MyJoyOnline said he captained Bafana Bafana, made 48 international appearances, played at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was part of South Africa’s 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad.

The appointment places Tinkler at one of Ghana football’s most prominent clubs as preparations begin for the new league campaign. Details of his contract, coaching staff and the date he will begin work were not included in the report.
