“No Room for Secrets”: Goasomanhene Presses Jean Mensa for Independent Audit of Voters Register
- Goasomanhene emphasizes the need for an independent audit of voters register
- He insists that the Electoral Commission should welcome scrutiny
- The chief urges dialogue and cooperation
Nana Akwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso traditional area in the Ahafo Region, has called on Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensa to facilitate a forensic audit of the voter register.
He believes it is essential for the Electoral Commission (EC) to demonstrate transparency and address the concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a recent statement, the chief remarked on a press release from the EC expressing a desire to meet with the NDC, asserting that an independent audit is now necessary.
He emphasized that if a respected figure like Otumfuo requested an audit of his leadership, he would have no choice but to comply rather than rely solely on his own council.
Nana Bosomprah urged the EC to be open-minded, stressing that a peaceful resolution is in the best interest of the nation.
He stated, “If the audit reveals nothing amiss, no one will face repercussions; instead, you will gain respect. However, I suspect there are issues that need addressing. Why block transparency if you have nothing to hide?”
His remarks came during a campaign event for former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, on September 18, 2024.
The NDC had organized a nationwide demonstration the previous day, calling for a thorough audit of the voter register in light of reported discrepancies ahead of the December 7 elections. They also submitted a petition to the EC to reinforce their demands.
