Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a commitment to ensure the passage of the Broadcasting Bill.
This pledge was made during an encounter with the media on Sunday, August 25. The Vice President assured journalists that the government is dedicated to seeing the bill through to its passage.
This commitment is in line with the government’s philosophy of upholding fundamental rights, including free speech and media freedoms.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of expanding individual rights and safeguarding media freedoms and pluralism.
To achieve this, the government will pass and fully implement the Broadcasting Bill before the final session of Parliament this year.
This move aims to better protect media freedoms and pluralism in the country. In addition to the Broadcasting Bill, the government will also resource the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme.
This programme aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of journalists, further supporting media development.
