The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has once again criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to provide political parties with copies of the provisional voter’s register ahead of the voter exhibition exercise. Dr. Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the NDC, expressed his disappointment and frustration with the EC’s failure to provide the register despite instructing parties to collect it on Wednesday, August 14.

The EC had requested external drives from political parties in July to facilitate the transfer of the register, but NDC executives were turned away when they visited the EC’s office on the stipulated date and again on Friday, August 16.

Dr. Boamah warned that the EC would not be allowed to rush the upcoming 2024 elections, declaring the party’s intention to demonstrate and organize public forums against the EC. He stated that every lost moment would be reclaimed at the EC’s expense, emphasizing that the elections would not be postponed.

NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama also called on the EC to release the provisional voter register during a recent campaign event on Friday, August 16, at Sogakope. Mahama advised party members to ensure they visit the various polling stations to verify their names during the voter register exhibition.

He expressed concern that the EC had not provided the provisional voter register despite requesting external drives from political parties in July. The EC is scheduled to commence the Voters Exhibition Exercise on August 20, 2024, and end on August 27, 2024, and has urged all citizens to participate to verify their details.

Dr. Boamah has announced plans for three public forums and demonstrations by citizens to demand the release of the provisional voter register, emphasizing that the EC will not be allowed to stampede the NDC into the elections.
