Police conducting a follow-up search at the scene of the fatal Odumase road accident recovered the body of a 30-year-old mechanic from beneath a DAF bus, according to MyJoyOnline.

The report said the mechanic, identified only as “Yeji”, was found nearly 24 hours after the crash. The discovery followed information from a relative who said two brothers had been on the bus but could not be found at health facilities or the morgue.

Konongo Divisional Motor, Transport and Traffic Department Commander ASP Frank Asare Awuah said a towing vehicle was brought in to move the vehicles from their positions, allowing officers and relatives to search the area more thoroughly.

One body was recovered during that search, he said. However, the effort did not locate another person, identified in the report as Daniel, who was also believed to be a mechanic attached to the bus.

Police and relatives searched through scattered tomatoes and passengers’ belongings after the vehicles were moved. ASP Awuah said officers would pause and return the following morning if the remaining search did not yield further findings.

The accident was reported to have killed 13 people at the scene. MyJoyOnline also reported that 47 people who sustained injuries were in stable condition at the time of publication.

Doctors at the Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital were expected to refer two female victims for orthopaedic care after they suffered fractures to their upper and lower limbs, the report added.
