  • Submissions are open to applicants worldwide and are due by 30 September 2026.
  • The chosen design is intended for anniversary events, publications and other official materials.

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited logo submissions for the Ghana-Japan Triple Anniversaries, a set of commemorations planned for 2027 to mark three milestones in relations between the two countries.

The anniversaries are expected to recognise 70 years since Ghana and Japan established diplomatic relations, 50 years since Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers arrived in Ghana, and 100 years since Japanese physician and bacteriologist Dr Noguchi Hideyo stayed in Ghana.

According to the Ministry, the selected design will become the official logo for anniversary-related events, publications and other materials. The initiative is intended to increase awareness of the relationship between Ghana and Japan and support continued friendship between the two nations.

Who can enter

The competition is open internationally, with no stated restriction based on nationality, age or place of residence. Applicants have until Wednesday, 30 September 2026 to send in their designs.

Entries are to be emailed to the First Africa Division of the African Affairs Department at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at japanghana2027@mofa.go.jp, and Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Information and Public Affairs Bureau, at ipab@mfa.gov.gh.

Relevant officials will assess the entries and select one design as the official logo. The winner is expected to receive a certificate of commendation, while the outcome is scheduled to be published on the foreign ministries’ websites in November 2026, subject to change.

Three historical milestones

Ghana and Japan established diplomatic relations in March 1957, shortly after Ghana attained independence. The first Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers arrived in Ghana in August 1977.

The third anniversary relates to Dr Noguchi’s visit to Ghana in November 1927, when he travelled to conduct yellow-fever research. The Ministry said the alignment of all three anniversaries in 2027 gives the year particular significance in the two countries’ shared history.
