The Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has officially joined forces with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana to support young entrepreneurs in the food innovation sector. The collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between innovative food products and regulatory requirements, ensuring that startups across the country adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality. Together, KIC and FDA Ghana will offer guidance, training, and mentorship to help startups navigate the FDA certification process more efficiently.
This initiative will enable young entrepreneurs to bring their innovative food products to market more quickly, boosting their business growth and enhancing their competitiveness.
During the MOU signing event, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC, underscored the significance of this partnership: “By helping startups achieve FDA certification, we ensure their products meet global standards, opening up new markets and opportunities while prioritizing consumer health and safety. This collaboration will also foster mentorship and advisory sessions to align food innovation with regulatory excellence,” he said.
Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, CEO of the FDA, highlighted the Authority’s commitment to assisting MSMEs in meeting product compliance to improve food safety.
“As regulators with a difference, the FDA focuses on enforcement while empowering MSMEs to comply with standards and smoothly bring their products to market. This is reflected in our Progressive Licensing Scheme,” she explained. She also mentioned the role of the FDA’s Industrial Support Directorate, which provides tailored assistance to regulated industries, helping them navigate the regulatory landscape.
This partnership showcases KIC’s ongoing dedication to promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth for young agripreneurs. It also reinforces FDA Ghana’s commitment to supporting local businesses while ensuring consumer safety and product quality.
Through this collaboration, KIC and FDA Ghana are setting the stage for a new era of food innovation in Ghana, empowering entrepreneurs to develop and scale products that meet global standards.
