The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for declaring March 31 and April 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. This appreciation was shared through a press release issued to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, the FMC’s general secretary.
The Council acknowledged the President’s fulfillment of his campaign promise to the Muslim community.
They stated that the decision would help address the difficulties some Muslims face in fully observing the festival due to the lunar calendar’s 29 or 30 days.
“We thank President Mahama for recognizing the importance of Eid-ul-Fitr and declaring an additional public holiday to allow Muslims to celebrate this special occasion,” the statement read. The FMC also noted that the extended holiday would promote unity, inclusivity, and religious tolerance in Ghana, offering Muslims a chance to celebrate with their families and loved ones.
The organization praised the President’s leadership in fostering national unity and social cohesion.
They urged all Muslims in Ghana to take full advantage of the holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and continue promoting peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
“Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ghana and worldwide!” the statement concluded.
