Ada East Assembly Rejects President Mahama’s DCE Nominee Kenneth Kanor

- Nominee Kenneth Kabu Kanor fails confirmation with 63.2% "Yes" votes—below the required threshold
- Rejection follows three successful MCE confirmations in Greater Accra
- Minister Linda Ocloo warns delays will stall development and recruitment
President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position in Ada East, Kenneth Kabu Kanor, has been rejected by the local assembly.
In the vote, Kanor received 24 “Yes” votes (63.2%) and 13 “No” votes (34.2%), with one rejected ballot (2.6%). The result fell short of the required threshold for confirmation.
This rejection comes shortly after three successful Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) confirmations in Ashaiman, Kpone Katamanso, and Tema West.
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, expressed concern about the impact of such rejections on local development. She warned that delays in confirming DCEs could hinder ongoing recruitment and development projects in the district.
“I told them, delaying confirmation means delaying progress,” she said. “If a DCE is in office, they can lobby for opportunities—including employment—for assembly members. Without one, those efforts are stalled or redirected through less direct channels.”
She also addressed internal political maneuvering, cautioning assembly members against sabotaging nominees in hopes of securing the position themselves. “If you’re shortlisted and working against the nominee, you may be undermining broader district interests,” she added.
