  • Ghana's 2026 World Cup qualifiers will be held at Accra Sports Stadium

Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has announced that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium will undergo renovations and will be designated exclusively for Black Stars matches.

The stadium, which hosted Ghana’s national team games in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup, has been prohibited by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from hosting Category A matches.

In an interview with 3Sports, Mr. Adams shared the government’s plans for the stadium.

“Among our key stadium facilities, Cape Coast is the one where we won’t need to spend much to refurbish it quickly. We plan to reserve it solely for national Black Stars matches for now, and we won’t allow any club games there,” he said.

He also mentioned that the renovations are intended to have the stadium ready for Ghana’s next World Cup qualifying matches in September and October.

“We aim to have it ready for the September and October qualifiers. After that, we’ll focus on refurbishing the Accra and Kumasi stadiums for upcoming competitions,” the Member of Parliament for Buem added.

Following CAF and FIFA’s ban on Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are preparing to face Chad in their Matchday 5 fixture before traveling to Morocco for their Matchday 6 match against Madagascar.
