- Overloaded socket blamed for the blaze
A fire has left one person in critical condition after it destroyed a three-bedroom house in Damongo, located in the Savannah Region.
The Municipal Fire Command reported that they received a distress call at approximately 9:18 AM on Thursday from Azura Kura, a suburb of Damongo. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had already engulfed the building, trapping one individual inside.
Firefighters worked relentlessly to rescue the victim, a male adult, who had suffered burns to parts of his body. The injured man was quickly transported to the Damongo District Hospital for medical treatment.
The fire crew also prevented a potential disaster by successfully averting an explosion of two gas cylinders located within the house, which could have caused extensive damage to neighboring properties.
Municipal Fire Commander ADO1 Philip Okuma informed Adom News that the fire was caused by an overloaded socket in one of the rooms of the house.
Both Okuma and the Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Emmanuel Ofori Adjei, have urged residents to take precautions by ensuring that all electronic devices are switched off and unplugged before leaving their homes, to prevent such incidents in the future.
