The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has confirmed that the Ghana Premier League (GPL) will resume soon after its recent suspension.

The league was paused following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong during the Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC. As a result, Matchday 20 games were postponed in respect of the incident.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Addo assured the public that although the league will not resume this weekend, efforts are being made for a quick return. “We are moving together and want to bring everybody along. We will make that engagement and announce a date soon,” he said.

In response to the unfortunate event, the GFA has taken steps to enhance safety and security protocols at match venues. These measures include the appointment of Club Safety and Security Officers and the installation of CCTV cameras.

The GFA has made it clear that any clubs that fail to comply with these new regulations could face sanctions. Such sanctions could include a fine of GH₵20,000 or a venue ban.
