Efua Ghartey, the newly elected President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), has committed to steering the Association towards a future marked by unity and progress.

In her remarks following her historic election in Kumasi on Wednesday, Ghartey promised to bridge divisions and dissolve factions within the GBA, underscoring the critical role of collective effort in achieving the Association’s objectives.

She declared, “The Bar has spoken, and from today onward, we are a united Bar in service. Factions and divisions are a thing of the past. It’s time for us to come together and work towards the Bar’s advancement.”

Ghartey, who has previously run for national president on two occasions, is recognized for her extensive legal career spanning over 30 years and her dedication to the GBA.

Her recent election is seen as a pivotal moment, promising fresh perspectives and leadership.

Her closest competitor, Agbesi Dzakpasu, received 1,060 votes, while Ghartey secured 1,278 votes.

Victoria Barth, who won the Vice Presidential race with 1,624 votes, triumphed over Ebenezer Kwaitoo, who garnered 495 votes. Barth is celebrated for her distinguished academic career and contributions to mentoring young lawyers at the Ghana School of Law.
