Ablakwa Launches GH¢100K Rent Fund to Aid Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims
- Ablakwa has allocated GH¢100,000 for emergency rent to aid Akosombo dam spillage victims
- Priority is given to supporting women and nursing mothers among the displaced
- Ablakwa pledges to work towards the full resettlement
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has unveiled a GH¢100,000 emergency rent fund to assist those affected by the Akosombo dam spillage.
This fund aims to help victims secure temporary housing as they continue to face the repercussions of the disaster from October 2023.
Ablakwa stated that the fund is part of a broader effort to ensure the complete resettlement and compensation of the more than 12,000 individuals impacted by the dam’s overflow.
Speaking after filing his nomination for the upcoming elections, he emphasized his commitment to addressing this urgent issue.
“For my next term, I am dedicated to the full resettlement and compensation of all victims affected by the VRA spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams. Currently, 1,360 constituents are still living in tents, which is both unacceptable and inhumane,” Ablakwa said.
“Therefore, I am setting aside GH¢100,000 as immediate rent support, with a focus on helping women, especially nursing mothers, find proper accommodation while we work towards a long-term solution.”
