- NDC emphasizes need for transparency and rule of law for peaceful elections.
Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has expressed disappointment and shame over the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) decision not to sign a peace agreement ahead of the 2024 general elections. Mac Manu believes the NDC’s refusal to sign the document indicates an intent to cause trouble during the elections.
He emphasized that the peace agreement is crucial for ensuring a peaceful electoral process. However, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, explained that the mechanisms for ensuring peace have not been properly established.
Asiedu Nketia stated that prosecuting those responsible for the 2020 election violence in Techiman South is essential before considering a peace pact. He emphasized that the foundation for peace has not been laid properly, making the signing of a peace pact unnecessary.
Asiedu Nketia highlighted the need for transparency, free and fair elections, and adherence to the rule of law to ensure peaceful elections. He stressed that simply signing a peace pact without addressing the underlying issues will not guarantee peace.
Asiedu Nketia called for law enforcement agencies to take action against those who engage in violent conduct during elections. He emphasized that setting consequences for violent behavior is essential for maintaining peaceful elections and upholding leadership.
