- NPP's Ashanti Region Reconciliation Team meets with Ejisu executives.
- Aim is to resolve conflicts from 2022 polling station election.
- Breakthrough with Mr. Aduomi, who won't contest as independent.
- NPP seeks unity ahead of 2024 elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu constituency of the Ashanti Region has taken a significant step towards ensuring unity within the party ahead of the 2024 elections. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, the Chairman of the Ashanti Region Reconciliation Team, Edward Boateng, held a crucial meeting with former constituency party executives in Ejisu.
The meeting, facilitated by Dr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, aimed at fostering unity and enhancing effective collaboration among the leadership of the party and members in the region. This effort is part of a broader initiative to address internal wrangling within the party, which deepened in 2022 after the polling station election.
Some agitated members of the party in the constituency had labelled the process as “unfair,” leading to a rift within the party. The situation was further complicated when four-time lawmaker, Mr. Aduomi, left the party to contest as an independent candidate in the April by-election after the demise of the then incumbent MP, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah.
However, on August 5, the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders met with Mr. Aduomi to resolve his issues with the party, leading to his decision not to contest the December parliamentary election as an independent candidate. This breakthrough paved the way for the Ashanti Region Reconciliation Team to engage with former executives of the Ejisu constituency.
The meeting with former executives, most of whom had earlier expressed reservation over losing their positions two years ago, was a follow-up to the earlier engagement with Mr. Aduomi. Emelda Antwi, secretary to the committee, told (link unavailable) that the meeting served as a follow-up to the recent engagement with Owusu-Aduomi, where similar concerns were raised.
In attendance at the meeting was the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, Kwabena Boateng (Esq), who doubles as the party’s Parliamentary Candidate. The meeting provided a platform for key stakeholders to discuss critical issues affecting the party in the Ejisu constituency.
According to Ms. Emelda, key issues discussed included the recognition of the importance of peacebuilding, cohesion, and teamwork within the party in the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region. The Chairman of the committee emphasized the urgent need for all members to work together towards a common goal, particularly as the party prepares for the upcoming electoral activities.
Chairman Edward Boateng assured attendees that more of such engagements will be organized to maintain momentum and resolve any lingering conflicts within the party. This commitment demonstrates the party’s dedication to addressing internal issues and ensuring unity ahead of the elections.
The meeting marks a significant step towards healing the wounds of the past and fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the party. As the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections, this effort to reconcile and unite party members is crucial for success.
The NPP’s reconciliation efforts in the Ejisu constituency demonstrate a commitment to unity and a willingness to address internal conflicts. By working together and putting aside differences, the party can present a united front ahead of the elections and work towards achieving its goals.
