President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to reject John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, describing Mahama’s previous presidency as a failure.
During the official launch of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto on Sunday, August 18, Akufo-Addo argued that Mahama’s administration did not meet expectations, which led to his defeat in the bid for a second term.
Akufo-Addo highlighted that out of Ghana’s five presidents, only Mahama failed to secure a second term.
He emphasized the need for voters, particularly first-time voters, to remember the unsuccessful aspects of Mahama’s tenure as they approach the 2024 general election.
“We need to remind ourselves of the past performance. Among the four surviving presidents, three were re-elected based on their accomplishments: Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and myself,” Akufo-Addo said. “John Dramani Mahama is the only one whose presidency did not warrant another term.”
At the manifesto launch, Akufo-Addo also encouraged support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, advocating for his election to continue the progress made during his administration over the past eight years.
