- Outpatient services disrupted, patients left stranded.
- Professionals demand own director, end to medical doctors' supervision.
- Strike to escalate if demands not met by Monday.
Patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been left stranded due to a strike by allied health professionals. The strike has affected the central, scan, and ENT departments, leaving outpatients without access to essential services.
Patients expressed frustration and disappointment at the situation, with some considering seeking services elsewhere. One patient, who spoke to our correspondent, criticized the hospital authorities for subjecting patients to unfair treatment.
Steward Adom, another patient, expressed surprise at the strike action and warned that many patients would be affected if the issue is not resolved. The allied health professionals are demanding the appointment of a director to manage their affairs, citing decades of being under the supervision of medical doctors.
According to Dr. Edward Ayem, Vice President of the Allied Health Professionals at KBTH, the strike will continue until their demands are met. Dr. Ayem accused the hospital management of playing politics and delaying the creation of a directorate for allied health professionals.
The strike action is set to escalate if the hospital management does not respond to the demands by Monday. Dr. Ayem emphasized that the strike will continue until the advert for the allied health director is placed, ensuring proper management and better patient care.
