- Prof. Ahwoi testifies against Asiedu Nketia in defamation case.
- Ahwoi claims Prof. Agyeman was banned from accounting and auditing.

- GICA letter contradicts Ahwoi's testimony, stating Agyeman wasn't banned.
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi testified in a defamation case against Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Asiedu Nketia is facing a GH¢20 million defamation suit for claiming that former Auditor-General, Professor Dua Agyeman, generated fake audit reports.
Prof. Ahwoi, a member of the Citizens Vetting Committee (CVC), testified that the committee found Prof. Agyeman presented forged documents as audited accounts. The CVC’s findings led to Prof. Agyeman being banned from practicing as an accountant and auditor in Ghana, according to Prof. Ahwoi.
Under cross-examination, counsel for Prof. Agyeman asked Prof. Ahwoi if he had evidence to support his claims, and Prof. Ahwoi replied that he did not. Prof. Ahwoi explained that the CVC’s report was published in newspapers in 1982, but he did not bring a copy to court.
Counsel also asked if Prof. Ahwoi had a letter from the Ghana Institute of Chartered Accountants (GICA) banning Prof. Agyeman, and Prof. Ahwoi said he did not. Prof. Ahwoi explained that the CVC’s secretariat no longer exists, and ICAG does not keep correspondence older than 25 years.
Counsel showed Prof. Ahwoi a letter from ICAG stating that Prof. Agyeman was not banned, and Prof. Ahwoi replied that he could not produce a letter withdrawing Prof. Agyeman’s license. Prof. Ahwoi suggested that living witnesses could corroborate his evidence, and Asiedu Nketia’s lawyers intend to subpoena other members of the CVC. The case has been adjourned to July 25, 2024.
