The Volta Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong disappointment and outrage over the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)’s proposal to confer an honorary doctorate degree on President Akufo-Addo. The youth wing has demanded that the Vice Chancellor and the University Council immediately cease all actions towards this undeserved conferment.
According to the NDC youth wing, it is “infuriating and unacceptable” that UHAS would even consider honoring a leader whose policies and actions have profoundly undermined the welfare and development of the Volta region and the nation as a whole.
In a press release dated July 18, the NDC youth wing argued that UHAS was established from scratch by the Mills-Mahama-led NDC administration, who provided the vision, resources, and initial development that has made UHAS what it is today.
The youth wing questioned the basis for the proposed honorary degree, citing the President’s lack of contribution to the growth and development of UHAS and the region. They accused the University Council of being “politically motivated” and “blind to the plight of the people”.
