The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, cautioned that the growing trend of citizens filing legal challenges against parliamentary bills could undermine the effectiveness of the legislature.

In a separate case, another citizen has lodged a lawsuit at the Apex Court opposing Parliament’s investigation into the Cecilia Dapaah Saga.

During a debate on the Standards Authority Pricing of Cement Regulation, Speaker Bagbin referenced concerns raised by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, emphasizing that no court should impede Parliament’s constitutional mandate.

Bagbin clarified that while courts could intervene after parliamentary processes conclude, they should not obstruct ongoing legislative functions.

The Speaker disclosed an influx of lawsuits aimed at stalling Parliament’s legitimate duties, urging MPs to address this issue promptly to safeguard their institutional relevance.

Bagbin stressed that his remarks did not prejudice the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings but highlighted the critical need for parliamentary autonomy in executing its duties.
