EC Prepares to Present Bill in Parliament for Ghana Card as Sole Voter Registration Identity

The Electoral Commission (EC) is now poised to present a bill in Parliament, advocating for the Ghana national identification card, commonly referred to as the Ghana Card, to serve as the sole proof of citizenship for registering new voters.

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, revealed to Graphic Online that the EC has secured unanimous support from all political parties, paving the way for the progression of essential legislation.

Mrs. Jean Mensa made these remarks following an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Echoing this development, Mrs. Jean Mensa confirmed that the EC intends to introduce the bill in the forthcoming parliamentary session.
