The Director of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, has called on chartered accountants to prioritize peace and stability in the lead-up to the general elections.

He believes peaceful elections will significantly contribute to economic growth and development.

Dr. Osae made this appeal during the conferment of fellowship on 150 members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG).

These members, with over ten years of experience in accountancy, met the requirements of the Accountancy Act for fellowship conferment.

They have demonstrated professional excellence through their work and participation in training programs in forensic auditing, taxation, public financial management, and corporate governance.

  • Ethical Conduct: Dr. Osae cautioned the newly conferred fellows against financial misconduct, emphasizing the importance of adhering to professional standards.
  • Avoid Conflicts of Interest: He advised against performing external audit assignments under a limited liability company and refraining from accepting audit engagements for entities within two years of involvement.
  • Post-COVID Recovery: He highlighted the need for chartered accountants to support business recovery efforts and avoid falling into the trap of not reporting material misstatements in financial reports.
  • Promote Peaceful Elections: Dr. Osae urged accountants to remain apolitical in their professional practice and contribute to peaceful elections through advocacy for effective financial governance.

Dr. Cynthia Sallah, Vice President of ICAG, emphasized the importance of integrity for the fellowship members. She noted that ethical leadership in today’s complex environment requires not only following laws and cultural norms but also taking proactive steps to contribute to solutions.
