Bridging the Divide: NPP Strives to Keep Disgruntled MPs on Board
- The NPP is actively engaging with disgruntled MPs
- Two incumbent MPs plan to run as independents after losing in the primaries
- JFK emphasizes the importance of party unity
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has raised alarms about incumbent MPs contemplating independent bids for the 2024 elections following their losses in the party’s primaries.
He noted that these moves threaten party unity as the election approaches.
Justin Frimpong Kodua revealed that the NPP is actively engaging with these unhappy members in hopes of persuading them to stay loyal to the party.
He stressed that ongoing discussions aim to find a peaceful resolution to avoid any splits in the electoral front.
The situation escalated when two sitting MPs announced their intentions to run independently, believing they still have strong support within their constituencies. This could pose a significant challenge to the NPP’s efforts to present a united front.
Despite the friction, Frimpong remains hopeful that the party can reconcile with the affected MPs, steering them away from independent campaigns that could fragment the vote.
He assured supporters that the NPP’s focus is on securing victory in the upcoming elections.
“None of the concerns about the delegate album or election processes were raised during the primaries,” he stated. “Every candidate enters the race knowing they might win or lose. Accepting defeat graciously is crucial for future opportunities.”
Justin Frimpong Kodua urged continued dialogue, emphasizing, “Let’s not lose hope. I truly believe we can mend fences and bring everyone back to the NPP.”
