NDC to Air Meeting with Electoral Commission Despite Denial

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is determined to broadcast its forthcoming meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) live, despite the Commission’s refusal to approve such a broadcast.

The meeting, set to address concerns about the provisional voters register for the 2024 elections, is scheduled for September 6.

On August 27, the NDC formally requested a meeting with the EC to discuss potential issues with the voter register. The party raised concerns about possible inaccuracies and sought clarity on these issues.

Following this request, the NDC sought to have the meeting streamed live for greater transparency. However, the EC declined this request on September 5, opting not to permit a live broadcast.

In response, Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, announced via Facebook that the party will ensure the meeting is streamed live independently. He stressed that this move is crucial for maintaining transparency and public access to the discussions.

Dr. Boamah also warned the EC against any attempts to influence the upcoming election in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He emphasized that any such actions would be strongly contested by the NDC.

Additionally, Dr. Boamah criticized the ruling NPP for its lack of response to the concerns raised about the provisional voters register. He highlighted the “loud silence” from the NPP as problematic.
