Bawumia Vows to End Electrical Gadgets Dispute

The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a commitment to resolve the ongoing impasse between the Energy Commission and traders of imported used electrical gadgets.
This impasse has raised concerns that Ghana may become a hub for electronic waste if not addressed.
Dr. Bawumia made this promise while addressing traders at Lapaz, a popular market for used gadgets, as part of his campaign tour of the Okaikoi Central, North, and South Constituencies.
He assured the traders that he would work to find a solution to the issue, while also pledging to introduce a tax regime that would bring relief to traders.
The Vice President was met with an enthusiastic crowd at Okaikoi Central and North, where he engaged with stakeholders at Apenkwa.
He also made stops at the Abeka market, Lapaz, and New Market, interacting with traders and listening to their concerns.
Dr. Bawumia paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who prayed for his success in the presidential campaign.
Later, Dr. Bawumia held stakeholders’ meetings at Nii Boi Town and a combined community connect campaign at Abrantie Spot at Lapaz.
At these engagements, Dr. Bawumia presented his “Bold Solutions” to the crowd, addressing concerns such as the proposed ban on used electrical gadgets.
He also pledged to remove the import tax on mobile phones, a move that would benefit traders and consumers alike.
