Southampton has bolstered its goalkeeping ranks with the acquisition of Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal. The England international joins the Saints in a £25 million deal.
The Saints will pay an initial fee of £18 million, with an additional £7 million in potential add-ons. Ramsdale, 26, has signed a four-year contract at St Mary’s with an option to extend for a further year.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to join Southampton,” Ramsdale expressed. “The manager’s vision for the team, coupled with his enthusiasm, was incredibly inspiring. I’ve never met him before, but he made me feel incredibly excited about the opportunity.”
Ramsdale, a five-time England international, represented his country at Euro 2024. He made 89 appearances for Arsenal since his £26 million move from Sheffield United in 2021.
“Aaron is a significant addition to our squad,” said Southampton manager Russell Martin. “I’m very grateful to the club’s ownership and board for making this deal happen, especially considering the interest from other clubs.”
Ramsdale had been linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Bournemouth goalkeeper was spotted at Southampton’s playoff victory over Leeds United in May to support his close friend, David Brooks, who was on loan from Bournemouth at the time.
