In a stirring show of support, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the new leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), electrified the hometown of President Akufo-Addo, Abuakwa South, during his Eastern Region campaign tour.
From early morning in Abetifi to the bustling afternoon in Mpraeso, Dr. Bawumia engaged with traditional leaders, market vendors, and local residents.
The excitement reached a fever pitch as he descended to Akyem Asafo in the Abuakwa South constituency, where he was greeted by a massive crowd of all ages.
Prior to his appearance in Akyem Asafo, Dr. Bawumia and his team visited the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, who, along with his sub-chiefs, warmly welcomed the NPP flagbearer.
The anticipation was palpable as thousands of supporters, predominantly youth, assembled in Akyem Asafo hours before Bawumia’s arrival. Despite inclement weather, many traveled from nearby towns and villages by foot and motorcycle, waiting over five hours to see him.
When Dr. Bawumia finally arrived at around 7 p.m., accompanied by Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea and parliamentary candidate Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, he was met with raucous cheers.
In his speech, he highlighted the successes of the Akufo-Addo administration and outlined his own plans if elected president in January 2025.
Emphasizing job creation and his flagship ICT training program for one million youth, Bawumia’s address struck a chord with the enthusiastic, predominantly young crowd.
