Ablakwa Slams ‘Unprecedented’ Corruption Under Akufo-Addo
- Ablakwa criticized the current administration for an unparalleled level of state capture and corruption
- He backed John Dramani Mahama’s plan to recover assets allegedly stolen during the NPP’s tenure
- Ablakwa highlighted the NDC's shift from setting up commissions of inquiry
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has expressed strong support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s plan to launch an aggressive anti-corruption campaign if they win the 2024 elections.
Ablakwa criticized President Akufo-Addo’s administration for its handling of numerous scandals, labeling the level of state capture and corruption as “unprecedented.”
He voiced full support for NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to overhauling the economy by recovering assets believed to have been misappropriated during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Addressing past criticisms about the NDC’s record on prosecuting wrongdoing during the Mills-Mahama era, Ablakwa admitted that the party had not done enough. He noted that lessons learned from the Ghana@50 commission have led the NDC to favor direct prosecution over setting up new commissions of inquiry.
In a recent interview, Ablakwa emphasized, “We are witnessing an unprecedented scale of corruption and state capture. The approach taken with Ghana@50 was flawed; we should have pursued direct prosecution from the beginning, as confirmed by the judiciary. Our manifesto now reflects this understanding—moving directly to prosecute rather than relying on inquiries.”
Ablakwa assured that a future NDC administration would focus on ensuring accountability and delivering justice, pledging a renewed commitment to tackling corruption if they are elected in 2024.
