Tema Youth Reject Ebi Bright’s Rumored Mayoral Nomination

- Protesters demand a native of Tema be named the next Mayor
- Reports suggest Ebi Bright may be appointed, sparking backlash
- Protesters burn tyres and beat drums to express anger
A group of youth in Tema staged a protest at the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, urging President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a native of the area as the next Mayor.
The protestors expressed their dissatisfaction by burning car tyres and beating drums, creating a charged scene to emphasize their demand.
Their protest comes in response to reports that Ebi Bright is being considered for the mayoral role, despite earlier indications that Patience Ankamah Addo was the leading contender.
Speaking to the media, Dora Sappor, the spokesperson for the group, strongly opposed the rumored nomination of Ebi Bright.
“We are here with heavy hearts to express our disapproval. We’ve heard Ebi Bright is being considered as the Mayor of Tema, but we won’t accept that. She was not involved in the initial process, so why is she being imposed on us? It doesn’t make sense,” she stated.
Sappor stressed that the demand for an indigene to assume the position was a unified stance taken by the youth of Tema East and the traditional authorities, calling on the President to honor their wishes.
