A large-scale blaze erupted at Adum Market, situated in the heart of Kumasi’s Central Business District, destroying numerous shops and properties. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, quickly spread to nearby stores, resulting in major financial setbacks for business owners. The flames escalated rapidly due to the flammable materials housed in many of the shops, hindering firefighters from controlling the blaze right away.

The impacted area of the market is a focal point for second-hand clothing vendors, seamstresses, and watch repair specialists. According to reports, six fire trucks were promptly sent to the scene. One of the significant obstacles faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was accessing the affected zone.

The market’s overcrowding, combined with limited access points, severely hindered firefighting operations.

Firefighters reportedly had to maneuver through narrow passageways while battling the intense fire.
