Global mining solutions provider FLSmidth has opened a state-of-the-art service center in Ghana, designed to enhance productivity in the country’s mining industry and throughout the West African region.

Inaugurated on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the center will offer extensive training, advanced technologies, and various services to help mining companies optimize their operations. It will also function as a crucial distribution point for equipment and spare parts, supporting business growth and revenue generation in the region.

FLSmidth Group CEO Mikko Keto stated that Ghana’s strong mining skills and stable business environment made it the perfect place for the company’s expansion.

“We had previously concentrated too much on South Africa. Now, we aim to increase our presence in Ghana to better serve our customers. Ghana is a stable, well-managed country with strong mining expertise, making it the ideal spot for this investment,” Keto explained.

The new service center will ensure quicker equipment deliveries and efficient refurbishment services, significantly cutting down lead times for mining companies. “This center will stock production spare parts, ensuring faster deliveries across Ghana and West Africa. Additionally, we can fully refurbish equipment here, maintaining it before returning it to the site,” Keto added.

The initiative has been praised by several key figures, including the Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Nørring, who noted its potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen the private sector.

“FLSmidth’s investment in Ghana is a prime example of balanced trade and investment. It fosters collaboration, creates local jobs, improves the workforce, and strengthens Ghana’s private sector while remaining economically viable for international investors,” Nørring said. Sulemanu Koney, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, also praised the project, aligning it with the chamber’s vision to make Ghana a hub for mining services.

“This investment by FLSmidth aligns with our goal of making Ghana a central hub for mining services. It presents a valuable opportunity to increase value retention within the country,” Koney stated.

Koney further emphasized the importance of local economic circulation, adding, “When mining sector expenditures result in value creation and retention through local training, spending, and reinvestment, we build a stronger economy for our nation.”
