Barca Stuns Atletico with Dramatic Stoppage-Time Comeback

- Yamal and Torres scored in stoppage time for a 4-2 win
- Atletico led 2-0 with 20 minutes left
- Torres scored the fourth to secure the win
Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scored in stoppage time to complete a stunning comeback for Barcelona, who overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a dramatic 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid and move to the top of La Liga.
At the start of the day, a win for Barcelona would lift them above Real Madrid on goal difference, while Atletico could leapfrog Barca into second with a victory.
Atletico looked set to make the perfect response to their midweek Champions League exit, where they were knocked out on penalties by city rivals Real Madrid, leading 2-0 with 20 minutes to go.
Julian Alvarez, who had been penalized for a double-kick during the shootout loss, broke the deadlock just before halftime, finishing off a cross from Giuliano Simeone. Alexander Sorloth doubled Atletico’s lead in the 70th minute after being set up in the box by Conor Gallagher.
However, Barcelona hit back swiftly, scoring twice in six minutes to level the score. Robert Lewandowski pulled one back with a powerful strike in the 72nd minute, before Torres equalized with a header from Raphinha’s cross.
Sorloth had a chance to restore Atletico’s lead late on when he was put through on goal, but his shot went wide after hitting the outside of his boot, and he may have been marginally offside.
In a dramatic finish, Barcelona completed their comeback with Yamal’s deflected curling strike in the second minute of added time to put them in front, before Torres sealed the victory with a low finish just before the final whistle.
Barcelona are now level on 60 points with Real Madrid but have a game in hand. Atletico remains in third, four points behind the top two.
