- Man sentenced to 12 years for sexual extortion
- Victim blackmailed with sex video after false promise of web design help
- Convict also found guilty of possessing narcotic substances
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Philip Spain Narh, a 26-year-old plumber and hairstylist, to 12 years in prison for sexual extortion.
Narh was found guilty of taking advantage of a 19-year-old Senior High School graduate by having vaginal and anal sex with her under the false promise of helping her become a web designer. He recorded their sexual encounter and published the footage online to blackmail her.
The convict was charged with seven counts of sexual extortion, non-consensual sharing of intimate images, publication or sale of obscene material, and unlawful possession of narcotic drugs. Narh pleaded not guilty but was found guilty after a full trial.
According to the prosecution’s facts, the complainant, a 19-year-old SHS graduate, met Narh through a social media platform. Narh created a false impression that he was a female German-American philanthropist who could assist the complainant in studying abroad.
The convict promised to help the complainant achieve her dreams in IT and web development but instead demanded sex, which he recorded and used to blackmail her.
The police arrested Narh and recovered his mobile phones, which contained the complainant’s nude photos and sex videos. Additionally, suspected narcotic substances were found in his room and tested positive for cannabis sativa.
The court sentenced Narh to 12 years in prison for his crimes.
