A major fire broke out at the Techiman market in the Bono East Region on Saturday evening, causing widespread destruction. The blaze, which began around 9:30 p.m., has been burning for nearly three hours at the time of this report, with fire service teams still working to control the flames.
According to Agya Tawiah, an eyewitness and reporter for Gaskiyah FM in Techiman, fire service units from Wenchi, Sunyani, and Nkoranza were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist in containing the fire. Despite their efforts, the fire remains a significant challenge.
The fire has primarily affected stalls that sell spiritual perfumes, incense, oils, and related items. Many traders in the market are devastated by the loss, with some reporting extensive damage to their businesses. “The fire has destroyed everything. It’s a huge loss for the traders,” one vendor shared, visibly shaken by the destruction.
In addition to the material damage, three individuals were injured and have been rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for medical attention. Authorities have not yet released details about their condition.
