The government, represented by Minister of Public Enterprises Joseph Cudjoe and Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), John Boadu, officially handed over 15,000 acres of farmland to the Ejura community on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
The historic ceremony was held at a durbar organized by Nana Barima Osei Hwedie II, the Ejurahene, and his chiefs, with local community members and various stakeholders in attendance. The event marked the fulfillment of a longstanding promise to the people of Ejura.
Mr. Boadu, who led the initiative, shared the journey that led to the successful handover. “I received a petition on this issue from Nana Ejurahene after becoming the Director-General of SIGA. I then discussed it with my Minister, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe, to take it up,” he said.
He continued, “Together, we undertook numerous engagements, including meetings with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, explaining that the lease for the Ejura Farms had expired as far back as 2018. We advocated for the Government to delist the farmland from the approved Cabinet Memorandum on the sale of assets of 17 defunct or inactive entities.”
Mr. Boadu expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Today, the government has fulfilled its promise, and we are here to present all the documents to Ejuraman for them to reclaim their farmland.”
The Ejurahene, Nana Osei Hwedie II, expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Boadu, Mr. Cudjoe, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for addressing the community’s long-standing request. He described the gesture as a significant milestone that would positively impact Ejura’s agricultural and economic development.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Boadu urged the people of Ejura to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential elections and to support the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Gifty Ndoma, in order to ensure the continuation of the government’s good works.
The durbar concluded with the community celebrating the achievement through songs and praises, expressing their deep appreciation for the government’s timely and impactful intervention.
