- GAF urges public to report impostors
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reiterated its dedication to ensuring peace and stability during the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, while emphasizing that no military personnel will be stationed at polling stations.
In a statement, GAF clarified that its role during the elections will be limited to standby support, with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) assuming primary responsibility for election security. Military deployment, the Armed Forces stated, will only take place upon the request of the police to help maintain order if necessary.
To prevent confusion and ensure transparency, GAF urged the public to report any individual posing as a military officer or wearing military-patterned clothing at polling stations. Citizens are encouraged to report such instances to the nearest police station or contact the GPS toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311.
The Armed Forces also called on Ghanaians to exercise their civic duties peacefully and to cooperate fully with security personnel throughout the election process.
Reaffirming its commitment to the stability of the nation, GAF emphasized its ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity of the election and ensure the safety of all citizens.
