NDC Official, Two Allies Held for Tearing Down Bawumia’s Posters on DRIP Equipment
- Cassius Larbi and two others were remanded for removing NPP campaign posters from DRIP equipment
- The court has ordered their detention for five days
- Mahama has criticized the use of taxpayer-funded DRIP equipment for political purposes
In a recent development, Cassius Larbi, the Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya West, along with two associates, has been remanded in custody by the Awutu Bereku District Court.
This follows their alleged removal of campaign posters for Eugene Arhin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, from District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment.
Judge Naomi Konto has ordered the trio to remain in police custody for five days, with their next court appearance scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024.
The controversy follows a call from John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections. On September 4, Mahama urged Dr. Bawumia to instruct the removal of these campaign posters from DRIP equipment.
He argued that since the DRIP initiative is funded by taxpayer money and aimed at improving road infrastructure nationwide, it should not be used for political advertising.
Mahama emphasized that the equipment under the DRIP project is public property and should not display party-specific promotional material.
He warned that if the posters were not removed promptly, the NDC would take further action.
