Violent Assault on NPP Candidate Leaves 2 Injured

Tragedy struck during the Homowo festival celebrations in Oyarifa, a community known for its vibrant culture and traditions, leaving a dark cloud over the festivities.
The incident occurred when NPP Parliamentary candidate Robert Lamptey, also known as Okumkom, visited the community to show his support for the celebrations and connect with constituents.
A group of assailants, reportedly affiliated with a rival political faction, attempted to attack Lamptey, but his security team quickly intervened and subdued the initial attacker.
However, the situation escalated as the attacker’s accomplices emerged, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and severely injured one of the guards who was protecting Lamptey.
The injured guard was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, but the mob pursued him, determined to continue their assault and intimidate Lamptey’s supporters.
In the chaos that followed, an Uber driver who had transported the wounded guard to the hospital was also brutally beaten, resulting in a broken hand and other injuries.
The Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motivations behind the violence.
The attack has cast a shadow over the Homowo celebrations and raised concerns about political violence in the lead-up to the elections, with many calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents.
Authorities are working to identify all those responsible and ensure justice is served, with Lamptey and other community leaders condemning the violence and calling for calm.
