The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has scheduled the election of its flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 general election on Wednesday, September 4.
This decision was made during an emergency National Executive Council meeting held in Kumasi.
The primary objective of the meeting was to finalize the date for selecting the party’s flagbearer. In addition, the council addressed various issues impacting the party’s progress.
Following detailed discussions, the council agreed to hold the flagbearer election on September 4, which will occur across all regions of Ghana.
Two candidates have announced their intention to run for the position: Lawyer Frimpong Yaw Anokye, a private legal practitioner, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, the former chairperson of the party.
Eben Agbenya Aszormahe, the Secretary to the Congress Committee, elaborated on the election procedures during the meeting.
Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah expressed confidence in securing the flagbearer position, while Lawyer Frimpong Yaw Anokye asserted that he is the best candidate to garner public support and lead the CPP to victory, despite the limited time before the general election.
The party acknowledged its delay in campaign activities but remains optimistic about ramping up efforts once the presidential primary is completed.
