Suame Interchange Workers Return to Site After Resolving Pay Dispute
- The workers of Rango Construction Limited resumed work after receiving assurances from management
- The construction of overpasses and link roads at the Suame Interchange continued without significant delays
- The Construction and Building Materials Workers Union played a crucial role in mediating the dispute
Workers from Rango Construction Limited, the firm managing the Suame Interchange project, have resumed their duties after receiving promises from their employer about a wage increase.
The workers, who had paused their work over the weekend and staged a protest, were demanding the raise that management had previously pledged, along with better allowances for transportation and meals.
Despite the work stoppage, the construction of key overpasses and link roads continued without significant delays. Frustration had mounted among the workers due to the slow implementation of the agreed-upon wage increase.
The Construction and Building Materials Workers Union intervened to mediate, facilitating discussions between the workers and management to address the issues.
Eric Kontor, the Ashanti Regional Industrial Relations Officer, confirmed that the discussions successfully resolved all outstanding concerns, leading to the workers returning to the construction site.
He noted that the issue arose from miscommunication and emphasized efforts to prevent such problems in the future.
The workers, who also sought higher allowances for transportation and feeding, resumed work following several meetings with management on Monday, August 26, 2024.
