Air Mattress Malfunction Leads to Two Deaths in Hotel Fire
- A devastating fire occurred at a South Korean hotel
- Two individuals tragically lost their lives after jumping out of the windows
- The damage caused by the fire was substantial due to the absence of sprinklers
A deadly fire broke out at a South Korean hotel, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven people and injuries to a dozen others.
The incident occurred when two individuals leaped from a window onto an air mattress provided by the fire department, which overturned, leading to their deaths.
The blaze, which started on the eighth floor due to an electrical fault, did not spread beyond that level but caused significant damage. The hotel, constructed in 2003, lacked sprinklers as they were not mandated by law at the time.
The fire was reported at 19:39 local time (11:39 GMT) and contained by 22:26. Authorities are investigating the hotel’s management for possible negligence and are also reviewing the effectiveness of the air mattress used during the rescue attempt.
Injured victims, some suffering from severe smoke inhalation, are receiving treatment in hospitals.
